What is Corpus?
Corpus is a collection of text written or spoken stored in a computer.
What does it mean that a textbook is Corpus based?
It means that a text is based on the most frequency words, collocations, expressions, chunks. In texts based in corpus we can also see word used in different contexts; formal, informal, colloquial or technical.
Do you think it is important for language teaching?
I think that corpus is very important for language teaching because if the teaching is based on it, learners are going to be exposed to the real uses of the language. It means, to the most frequents words, collocations, chunks expression, register of words, among others.
How can you use it in your class?
I see that the teacher is worried about we- students- learn the most frequent words and their uses in real context. She is worried that we use those words, taking into account the different aspects that mean to know a word.
Give reasons and examples why Chilean English teachers should be using it.
Chilean teachers should be use it because of the fact that learn a foreign language from corpus is the only way to know the real uses of the language nowadays. They should apply it in their classes using dictionaries and textbooks based in corpus
